Afranet is the first private tier one Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Iran holding an ISO 9001 certificate. Having a direct access to the Internet backbone via its satellite ground station Afranet is issued both ICP and ISP permissions from PTT. Currently it has 4 Mbps send & 13 Mbps receive bandwidth, which can be upgraded up to 90 Mbps with the existing equipment. As a funding member, Afranet has established a high-speed network with four other major tier one ISPs (Isiran, DPI, IPM and Sharif) which is known as GIX (Global Internet eXchange). GIX project has many advantages such as increasing the reliability of services, security, speed and lowering the prices. Afranet main activities are concentrated on Internet access provisioning, VOIP (Voice over IP) and Electronic Commerce (EC). Afranet is also a leading Electronic Commerce (EC) company in Iran with more than ten successful projects completed in this field so far such as D8 Countries web site and ITDB (Industrial and Technological Data Base) project, Iran Industrial Information Network, Isiran, Nirou Moharekeh, Darugar, Cyberkish, Tehrantimes on-line and so on.
